It sounds terribly posh. In reality, it just means a ridiculously good delivery service, which, unusually, Schplendid provides free of charge.
‘White glove delivery’ conjures up a fine image, possibly two gentlemen in morning coats carrying your new sofa into the drawing room on a silver tray. But although the name does indeed come from the fingerprint-preventing white gloves traditionally worn by butlers, these days ‘white glove’ just means taking more care than usual.
In sofa terms, white glove delivery means that when your Schplendid sofa arrives, the delivery team don’t simply lower it from a van and wish you luck.
They bring it into your home and get it to the room where you actually want it. Then they assemble it, plump it and steam it so it looks as it should. Then they clear away the packaging rather than leaving you with an exciting new collection of cardboard and plastic.
In summary, they leave you with a sofa ready to sit on.
And what if you live up four flights of stairs?
Our delivery people are specialist sofa-delivery people. They spend their lives negotiating narrow doors, awkward hallways, tight staircases and crazy corners.
Importantly, because they’re made properly, most Schplendid sofas can be carefully dismantled if necessary. Arms, backs, bases and legs can be separated, taken through the awkward bits and reassembled once inside.
So if you live in a flat, a cottage with a tiny front door or somewhere at the top of a spiral staircase, don’t assume you need a tiny sofa.
We wrote a post here about whether a Schplendid sofa will fit into your house. The short answer is: almost certainly.
The especially Schplendid bit
At the very expensive end of the furniture world you do expect white glove delivery.
Where Schplendid are rather unusual is in offering that level of service for free.
Many sofa companies charge separately for delivery, and sometimes considerably more for the full carry-it-in-and-put-it-together treatment.
But not here: white glove delivery and assembly are included in the price of every Schplendid sofa.
It’s part of the same slightly peculiar philosophy behind the rest of the business: no expensive showrooms, no endless sales, no hidden extras. We’d rather put the money into making your sofa properly, and then make sure it actually reaches the place where you want to sit on it.
What exactly is white glove delivery, anyway?
