How do we know for sure that we make the best, most comfy and long-lasting sofas in the world?
Because we’ve taken every ingredient and replaced the nasty, cheap, planet-poisoning thing that nearly everyone else uses with the best money can buy.
(And remarkably, we make this affordable by not earning margin on these extraordinary extras)
Eight-way hand-tied springs (instead of zig zag)
Virtually all sofas today rely on cheap, quick zig-zag springs. We go back to the old art of eight-way hand-tied springs - each one lashed in eight directions so they work together as a team, allowing us to fine-tune the sofa for maximum comfiness. Trust us, this makes all the difference.
Italian goose down (instead of foam or fibre)
Yes it’s expensive, which is why virtually nobody else uses it. But sustainably and ethically-sourced goose down is quite simply the most comfy thing in the world to sit on, so we do.
Wool and coconut husk (instead of foam)
Most sofas are full of nasty cheap plastic: foam, dacron, polyester. Schplendid’s are built with 100% natural materials; sustainably sourced wool and coconut husk.
It lasts, breathes well, and is exceptionally comfy.
Pure Italian linen and velvet (instead of polyesters)
The bit you touch must be the best and 100% natural, with no poly this or poly thats, and no funny sprays. We use two sensational mills, both at the top of their game, both in Italy.
Beech hardwood (instead of ply)
The inner skeleton must be strong and carefully built to withstand some big shocks. Instead of flimsy ply we use solid FSC-certified beech hardwood, dovetailed and dowelled like the finest furniture of 200 years ago.
That’s why we guarantee them for life (and possibly another one).
Biofoam (instead of petrochemical)
Most sofas are stuffed full of petrochemical foam (plastic, basically) and destined for landfill. In the few places we need foam, we insist on the best possible kind: bio-foam made from plant oils. It’s just as squidgy but it’s recyclable, biodegradable and sourced from a carbon neutral supplier.
No plastic, no nasties, just an obsession with comfort, ridiculously reasonable prices & a service that feels like a warm hug.
