When you order a Schplendid sofa, we don’t go and fetch one from a warehouse. Your wish magics it into existence (which is to say, we make it to your unique order within six weeks).
An interesting thing about a Schplendid sofa is that until somebody orders it, it doesn’t actually exist. Which is to say, there isn’t a warehouse full of finished Margots and Vespers in sofas in assorted colours waiting to be sold.
Rather, your order is the thing that brings your sofa into existence. You choose the model, the size and the fabric. Then, in our workshop, people start making your unique sofa.
There are at least two schplendid things about that…
One is the waste reduction. Unlike most sofa brands, we don’t have to play the usual retail game of trying to predict how many sofas people might want in which styles, making them all in advance and then finding somewhere enormous to store them.
Another is psychological and may sound a bit corny, but we like the idea that from the moment the beech frame is made, the people in our workshop know that this particular sofa already has a home to go to.
There’s a lot involved in the making process… our craftspeople build the hardwood beech frame, create the eight-way hand-tied spring system, then the upholsterers, fabric cutters, stitchers and cushion-makers each do their bit. Somehow, knowing the sofa is definitely for a particular home makes it all more satisfying and personal.
And if that all sounds like the prelude to us telling you that your sofa will arrive sometime next Easter, fear not!
