Easy ways to style your home for Spring

Easy ways to style your home for Spring

The days get longer, natural light comes flooding in… it’s time to cast off the winter blues! Here are some very easy ways to make the most of a spring refresh in your home…

Yes, we know….every spring, the internet tells us that now is the moment to ‘refresh your interiors’, usually with a long, rather expensive-looking shopping list.

Luckily, you don’t need to redecorate the whole place or replace your furniture for that lovely fresh, new-start spring vibe. A few small, simple changes, mostly involving things you already own, will do the job perfectly well.

Here are some quick, low-effort ways to make your home feel more spring-like, starting (very sensibly) with the sofa.

1. Spring colours: keep it light and don’t overthink it

Spring interiors are all about creating a lighter, more uplifting atmosphere. Colour plays a huge role in this. And in the sitting room your sofa, being the largest object, acts as the foundation for the rest of the room.

Nature-inspired greens
Greens always feel spring-like because we associate them with the natural world. Sage, olive and eucalyptus tones go very happily with most fabrics, especially natural textures

Pastels (but handle with care)
Pastels are lovely but best used sparingly. A cushion, a throw, perhaps a lampshade in a pale lavender or a dusty pink, rather than large furniture pieces, curtains or rugs.

Soft neutrals with fresh accents
If your sofa is a neutral, such as a soft grey or beige, you’re already halfway there. Add a couple of cushions or throws in fresher tones (perhaps a sage, soft blue or a dusty pink) and the room immediately feels lighter.

The main point is that you don’t need to change the sofa to change the feel of the room, but what you put on and around it can do a lot of work.

2. Switch winter layers for lighter ones for instant impact

This is a very easy way to banish the winter blues: just change the weight of what’s on your sofa and chairs:

Throws – those thick chunky knits did stellar work over winter but they can now have a rest in the cupboard. Replace them with a lighter throw, draped casually.

Cushions – If your sofa is currently buried under heavy velvet cushions, swap a couple for linen, cotton or something a bit looser and more relaxed. Two or three is plenty.

Make space – Indeed, spring is a good time to simplify matters: use fewer cushions and layers in favour of a more visible sofa. It makes the room feel more airy and spring-like in an instant.

3. Spring cleaning: give the sofa some attention

Some dread it, others positively live for it. You might be somewhere in between. But spring cleaning really can be a joy if you take the positive approach, because it’s all about ‘resetting’ and making your home feel fresher for the months ahead.

Here’s what to do with the sofa:

  • Vacuum cushions and crevices thoroughly to remove dust and debris

  • Rotate seat and back cushions for even wear

  • Spot-clean fabric or leather following care guidelines

  • Air out cushion covers and throws where possible

We’ve written a more detailed sofa care guide if you want the full cleaning chapter and verse, but even this basic reset makes a noticeable difference.

Once the sofa’s done, clear the area around it. A bit less clutter on side tables and floors lets the room breathe again, which to be honest is a lot of what “spring styling” actually amounts to.

Refresh your home, starting with the sofa

Yes we realise how this sounds, coming from people who make sofas, but hear us out…The sofa is the largest piece of furniture in most sitting rooms and the thing you use the most. So if you’re going to make one small seasonal effort, it makes sense to start there.

The good news is that a spring refresh needn’t be effortful or expensive – a few easy changes make all the difference and really can make a surprising difference to your general mood about the house. Enjoy!
